How to use the expression "adhere to" correctly

This is an entry on my list of Common Errors in English Usage. Visit the main page for direct links to additional entries.

The correct idiom to use is adhere to (meaning “to stick to” or “to follow”), not adhere with or some other variation.

If you do not adhere to the rules, you will be excommunicated from the Hannah Montana Fan Club.
