Neko Case is one of my favorite musicians. She’s a great singer and a multi-instrumentalist, but what really sets her apart is her songwriting. She writes about interesting and unconventional topics, and though her music is beautiful, it’s also often challenging and less immediately accessible than most “pop” music. I’ve been wanting to include some of her work on Camilla’s English Page for a long time. “Last Lion of Albion,” from 2018’s Hell-On, is a good place to start. The new song page includes the official video, lyrics, notes, questions to prompt analysis and discussion, and links to interviews with Neko that shed light on the meaning of the song and on her music in general.
